Note: The given workarounds may not save all the latest changes, file formatting, and feature sets of a Workbook that are specific to the Excel version, which you are using. Method 1: Save the Excel Workbook with a New Name

There are two best possible solutions to fix this error. These are:

  1. First of all, choose Save As option from the File menu
  2. Then, Save the Excel workbook using a unique file name.

Method 2: Move the Original Worksheets to a New Excel Workbook

Follow the steps to move original sheets:

  1. Add the filler worksheet to any Workbook. For doing this, press Shift + F11.
    Note: This sheet is necessary because there has one remaining sheet in the workbook after moving all the relevant data sheets.
  2. Now, group the entire worksheets(except the filler). For this, click on the first sheet, hold the Shift key, and afterward choose the last sheet.
  3. Right-click on grouped sheets >> Click the Move or copy option.
  4. From To Booklist >> Click on the New Book >> Press OK.
Note: If your MS Excel workbook contains VBA macros, then, copy the modules from the old XLS workbook to the new workbook.

Method 3: Save the File as a Different Excel File Type

For different file formats:

  1. From the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save as Type list, select a file format other than the recent file format. In case of Microsoft Excel 2007 or any later version, save the file as .xlsx or .xlsm format instead of as .xls.

Method 4: Save the file in HTML format

To save in .html format:

  1. Go to the File menu >> Click Save As.
  2. Now, click Web Page, in the Save as type list.
  3. Click on Save.

Step 1: Try to Save the Excel Workbook to Another Location

To save the MS Excel workbook correctly to a local hard disk, a network drive, or to a floppy drive, there are following possible causes of the problem:

Step 2: Try to Save a New Workbook to its Original Location

Follow the steps given below to save a new XLS/XLSX file to its original location:

  1. Create an Excel sheet.
  2. Go to the File menu >> Click on Save As.
  3. Follow the below steps , in the Save As dialog box:
    1. Select the location where the original workbook is saved.
    2. Type a name for the new Excel file in the File name box.
    3. Click Save.
If you are able to save a new workbook to its original location, then the following are the remaining possible causes for the problem: If you are not able to save the new workbook to the original location, then Insufficient drive space is a possible cause of the problem.
If you are having the sufficient drive space, try Step 3.

Step 3: Save the Microsoft Excel Workbook in Safe Mode

First, restart Windows in safe mode, and then save the workbook to the local hard disk.
Notes: If in case you are using a network location to save the workbook, then, try to restart Windows in safe mode with network support, and then try to save it.
The Windows safe mode cannot be used to troubleshoot the issues in MS Excel 2010 or the later versions.
If the Workbook is saved after restarting Windows in safe mode, then try to save the file again as: Click Save on the File menu.
